The children we serve have suffered abuse, neglect, or other physical or sexual mistreatment, often due to parents' drug or alcohol addictions. Through no fault of their own, these children are removed from their homes and placed in alternative settings such as a relative's home or foster care while their parents undergo services to address the problems in the home. Once in the system, the Court must determine whether the children can be reunified with their families or need a different permanent plan for their lives, such as adoption or guardianship.
Children in this situation are scared, confused, sad, lonely, and overwhelmed. Even worse, the adults the children trust most are not there to support them. A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) comes into the middle of these situations to offer love, support, and hope for each child.
MISSION: CASA of Kosciusko County is a non-profit organization committed to speaking in the best interest of children who are at risk for abuse and neglect. CASA recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to serve at-risk children in the family court system.
VISION: The purpose of CASA is to provide advocacy for children of Kosciusko County who are parties to or affected by litigation involving potential or actual abuse and/or neglect. Court ordered CASA involvement may include, but is not limited to the following situations: Children In Need Of Services (CHINS), Termination of Parental Rights, Adoption proceedings, Guardianship proceedings, and Dissolution of Marriage involving child custody issues.
VALUES: All children deserve the right to grow up in an environment that is safe, nurturing and loving. Our goal is to provide children with a competent, professionally trained volunteer to represent their needs in court.
